It wasn't even nice weather for ducks! As some of you know, our 4th Annual Great Lakes Aviators Fly-In and Build-Off was a disappointment. Monsoon rain kept everyone in aircraft away. Fortunately, there were still over 500 hungry people that showed up for the Pancake Breakfast and to get a look at the WWII Veteran B-25D Bomber "Yankee Warrior".
The Bomber arrived Friday and was able to get one flight in before weather ruined our plans for the weekend. Those lucky ones that flew came back wide eyed and excited to have had the opportunity. Friday night was a night of burgers, brats and beer, put on by EAA Chapter 704. We had a good turn-out and enjoyed talking with the crew of "Yankee Warrior". There was 40's music and lots of hangar talk.
As mentioned, we had a surprising turnout for breakfast, so what had begun as "what are we gonna do with all this food?!", turned in to a very respectable showing in head count. We are so very appreciative to the local community of Sparta as well as the surrounding towns coming out the way they did. Thanks so much.
Tom Kozura treated us by running his WWI Clerget engine. A very rare and interesting engine.
And the Wolverine Skyhawks brought out their radio controlled model airplanes for those who stayed around for the late morning weather break. Fun to watch them fly.
The other disappointment came in our inability to perform our Young Eagles flights. We had many young, would-be aviators that came to get their airplane ride, only to be denied by mother nature. We are working to schedule some Young Eagles flights in the coming weeks. Hopefully we can accomodate everyone interested. We will post the info as it becomes available.
Finally, we would like to thank our sponsors. Most of them have been with us since the first Build-Off.

Welcome to our new blog. Since this is brand new, you can expect it to be a little sketchy for the first few entries.
First item is to remind everyone that is interested in attending that EAA704 will be meeting at the Sparta Airport this Tuesday, 7/5, at 7:00pm. This meeting is open to the public. The main focus this month is the finalization of plans for the Fly In and Pancake Breakfast for August 12 & 13. Details are listed on both this web page and our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/eaa704 .
Also we will be discussing the upcoming EAA Airventure Fly In scheduled for the last week of July. Obviously the largest event on most pilot's calendar, we will discuss plans of our members to attend, camp and otherwise participate in the event.
OK, let's see if this actually works...
